Why Become A Girl Member?

Girl Scouting offers girls unique opportunities for personal leadership development, exposure to positive and caring role models, and community involvement. Girl Scouting cultivates self-respect, self-confidence and self-worth— character qualities that last a lifetime.

According to a survey by Louis Harris and Associates, most Girl Scout alumnae believe that their experiences in Girl Scouting have made a lasting impact on their lives, in terms of their self-confidence, moral values, ability to make friends and work with others, leadership skills, and of course, their commitment to serving their community.

Girl Scouts is different from any other organization a girl might choose to join. In Girl Scouting, girls take an active role in deciding what they want to do and how they want to do it. That is why we proudly say, “Girl Scouts is for girls, by girls, and about girls.”

Girl Scouts of Greater Iowa is pleased to announce the March-April Membership Drive.

Any girl that has a friend join Girl Scouts between March 1, 2008 and April 30, 2008 will be given an "Add a Friend" patch and both girls will be entered into a drawing for a 1:85 chance to win a $5 gift card from Pizza Hut, Burger King or McDonalds.

Any registered adult that has an adult friend join Girl Scouts in the same time frame will be entered into a drawing for a 1:36 chance for a Girl Scouts of Greater Iowa t-shirt.

Drawings will be held Monday, May 5, 2008.  Contact a Membership Specialist today!

EARLY-BIRD REGISTRATION
Early Bird Registration is for all girls/adults that choose to register for the 2008-2009 Membership year anytime during April 15-June 15, 2008.

  • The incentive for registering during the Early Bird registration time frame is:
  • All girls registering will receive an Early Bird patch.
  • Troops that re-register at least 80% of their troop will be entered into a drawing for a $20 gift card to use for troop supplies.  A grand total of 20 drawings will be held.
  • All Troop Leaders and Co-Leaders will receive a T-Shirt if they re-register 100% of their troop.

If troops have girls that have moved, the leader will need to let the Membership Specialist know to ensure membership accuracy and it will not count against the troop meeting the registration requirements.

Why Become An Adult Member?

The Girl Scouting experience is also for adults who desire to give to the next generation of girls experience, support and knowledge.  Girl Scouts is a place where adults who desire to assist in giving girls positive self-esteem, life building skills, confidence and character thrive.  If you can imagine the future generation of girls growing up more confident, more self-aware, more knowledgeable and more active in their communities, then, Girl Scouts is the place for you.

We are always looking for adult volunteers to share their knowledge, skills and/or life wisdom with our area girls, to be a leader, a mentor, a one-time volunteer.

Our staff employs Membership Specialists who are available and willing to help you through the membership process and or to answer any questions that you have.  These Specialists would be happy to hold a "pep-rally" at your school, speak to your group about membership or discuss all we have to offer girls for membership.
